TNO Built Environment and Geosciences, business unit Building and Construction
The spatial organisation and use of space in the Netherlands are key elements of the core area, TNO Environment and Geosciences. The government and those business sectors whose work directly involves sustainable organisation, in particular, need knowledge in this area. Topical issues include the use of the subsurface, mobility, the infrastructure, the renewal of the inner cities, the formation of a network between cities and the administrative implications of this as well as the development of regions, partly in a European context. Renewable energy and energy efficiency, too, are themes that play a role in this core area.
Spearheads in TNO’s knowledge
include: Policy and Planning, Geosciences, Sustainable Transport Systems, Infrastructure
and Organisation, Ecology and Buildings and Building Structures. TNO can contribute
to improved policy development and decision-making processes pertaining to the
combination of space, infrastructure and sustainable development. Moreover,
TNO is a partner in projects in the area of infrastructure and innovation in
construction and in projects related to sustainable innovation and local systems.
TNO also contributes to innovative logistical systems and transport and traffic
systems. This work involves the provision of logistical solutions to business
so that savings and optimisation can be achieved.
