Norwegian Building Research Institute NBI
The Norwegian Building Research Institute (NBI) was established in 1949 and became an independent, private foundation in 1985. NBI serves as the national research and development center for the building and construction industry in Norway. NBI serves central and local authorities, industry, building consultants and the public. Income is based on commissioned research and development for private companies, central and local authorities and sale of publications. Basic funding through the Norwegian Research Council amounts to 5 % of annual turnover.
There are 160 employees including 110 with advanced degrees in the fields of building technology, mechanical and chemical engineering, computer science, architecture, social sciences and arts. About 40 employees work in the area of ventilation, indoor climate and energy issues. The Head office is located in Oslo and a branch office located in Trondheim on the campus of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.
